Destiny 2 is drawing ire from its players yet again, this time over a change that throttled the number of faction tokens players could earn, as well as an unintended lack of clarity over how faction weapons would be released.
In a blog post, mentioned that the first of those two incidents, an update last year that fixed an exploit that let players earn “hundreds of Faction Tokens per hour without firing a single shot” by preventing players from gaining rewards from Lost Sectors (hidden areas that worked like mini-dungeons) if they did them too quickly.
“We have heard player feedback that this solution was too disruptive,” Bungie community manager Cozmo said. “We’re looking at a change that won’t make players feel forced to run to and from a single chest for hours while also not placing a hard stop on enjoying Lost Sectors. We want to ensure that every time you open a chest there is loot inside.”
Cozmo also apologized for the lack of clarification regarding how Season 2’s faction weapons would roll out. “It was not made clear beforehand that the new Season 2 weapons would be added throughout the events of the Season rather than all at once in the beginning,” they said. “This was on us. No excuses.” For Season 2, one new weapon will be introduced as the “Winner’s Offering” for all three factions.
Whichever faction wins that week’s Faction Rally will receive that weapon for cheap, while the other factions will have to pay much more for it. When the second Faction Rally hits in Season 2, the previous Winner’s Offering weapons for all three factions will be added to that faction’s engram rewards, along with one other new weapon. This process repeats for the third and final Faction Rally of the season, for a total of five new weapons per faction over the course of the season.
“We will be remedying this lapse in communication next week with details on what you should expect when the next Iron Banner rolls out in Season 2,” Cozmo said.
These snafus have become commonplace with Bungie and Destiny 2, and while this one isn’t necessarily too major, it’s one more strike against the company’s overall management of the game. When the company has to issue a statement saying they want loot to be in every chest in a loot-based game, something is definitely off.
